The Songwe Zone Offices are located in Mbozi, Songwe Region and are headed by a Regional Manager. The zone was established to serve Songwe and Mbeya Regions due to the large surplus production of grains, especially corn and rice, and to be able to serve other Agency Zones with low production. Songwe region has warehouses with the capacity to store 17,000 tons of grain. Currently, the agency is implementing a project to increase grain storage capacity by building modern sheds and warehouses to improve storage structures in the Vwawa area. The completion of this project will increase the grain storage capacity from the current 17,000 tons to 37,000 tons. Grains bought, stored and circulated/sold through the Songwe Zone are maize and rice.
