APRIL 14 2025, MTANANA KONGWA
The Ministry of Agriculture, through the National Aflatoxin Control Project (TANIPAC), has completed the construction of a maize processing plant as part of a smart post-harvest grain management center at Mtanana.
The Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture (responsible for Cooperatives and Irrigation), Dr. Stephen Nindi, participated in the official handover ceremony of the maize processing plant and metal silos (LOT 2), where he handed it over to the Director General of the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA), Dr. Andrew Komba, on April 15, 2025, at Mtanana – Kongwa, Dodoma Region.
Dr. Nindi commended TANIPAC for overseeing the implementation of the project, which cost Tanzania Shillings 8.5 billion, and emphasized that its implementation must go hand in hand with proper maintenance of the infrastructure, and be operated with quality and integrity to bring about positive impacts in line with the project’s objectives.
Furthermore, Dr. Nindi said the completion of this project will help address various challenges, including the problem of aflatoxin, and therefore NFRA must ensure proper maintenance of the infrastructure so that it continues to operate efficiently in the long term.
On his part, the Director General of NFRA, Dr. Andrew Komba, expressed gratitude to TANIPAC for completing and handing over the project, which will directly benefit citizens by processing maize with modern advanced technology.
In his project implementation report, TANIPAC Coordinator, Mr. Clepin Josephat, stated that the completion of the construction works—which included a maize processing plant (62 TDP), three metal silos (9,000 MT), a weighbridge, a warehouse (5,000 MT), and concrete roads—cost a total of Tanzania Shillings 8.5 billion, covering various infrastructure developments.
The construction of the maize processing plant (62 TPD), metal silos (9,000 MT), weighbridge, warehouse (5,000 MT), and concrete roads began in April 2022 and was completed in April 2025 under the contractor M/s CRJE (East Africa) Limited.
