The Sumbawanga Regional Offices are located in Mazwi, Rukwa Region and is led by the Regional Manager. The zone was strategically established due to the large production of corn and rice grains. This zone serves Rukwa and Katavi Region. The Sumbawanga region has warehouses with the capacity to store 38,500 tons of grain, which are Mazwi-Sumbawanga Urban (28,500 tons), Laela-Sumbawanga Rural (5,000 tons), and Mpanda-Katavi (5,000 tons). Currently, the agency is implementing a project to increase grain storage capacity by building modern silos and warehouses to improve storage structures in Mazwi and Mpanda areas. The completion of this project will increase the grain storage capacity from the current 38,500 tons to 83,500 tons. Grains bought, stored and circulated/sold through the Sumbawanga Region are maize and rice. It is one of the regions that is depended on to transfer grain to regions with deficits in food production, especially the regions of the Lake region.
