NFRA CONDUCTS TRAINING ON POST-HARVEST MANAGEMENT AND FOOD RESERVE FOR AGRICULTURE AND PROCUREMENT OFFICERS

The Chief Executive Officer of the National Food Reserve Agency (NFRA), Dr. Andrew Komba, has commended the Agency’s Agriculture and Procurement Officers for their significant contribution that enabled NFRA to attain a food stock of more than 800,000 tonnes of grain during the 2024/2025 period, a milestone that has never been achieved since the establishment of the Agency.

The remarks were made during the official opening of a sensitization seminar on Best Practices in Post-Harvest Management for Agriculture and Procurement Officers, being held at the Mtanana Post-Harvest Management Centre (PHMC) from 24th to 26th May, 2026.

The seminar aims to equip participants with knowledge and skills on best practices in post-harvest handling and storage, as well as the use of digital systems in the management of procurement operations.

Furthermore, the Chief Executive Officer noted that the achievement resulted from effective execution of the Agency’s core responsibilities, including purchasing, storing, distributing food for disaster response, and food recycling/sales, while upholding its primary mandate of ensuring national food security.

Dr. Komba emphasized that proper implementation of these responsibilities will enable the nation to achieve the target of storing 3 million tonnes of food by the year 2030, in line with the directives of Her Excellency Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, President of the United Republic of Tanzania.

The seminar is intended to strengthen the capacity of Agriculture and Procurement Officers in preparation for the 2026/2027 grain procurement season, particularly on grain quality standards, proper procurement procedures, and safe post-harvest storage practices in order to enhance efficiency in the execution of their duties.
